Bamboo is also known as ‘natural steel’ for its exceptional durability and resistance. Its uses are a thousand-and-one. In the Orient bamboo is associated with harmony, peace and honesty, and plays a prominent role in Feng Shui.
One of the great advantages of bamboo is its renewability. It is one of earth’s fastest growing plants, maturing in only 3 to 4 years. Another advantage of Guatemala is that various species of bamboo are cultivated, each with its own characteristics and uses. This variety enables us to use bamboo to manufacture many different types of furniture and decorations such as lamps, accessories, bungalows, houses, etc.
The species mostly used in Guatemala is the Bambusa Vulgaris, also known as yellow bamboo. Its yellow color with green veins makes it the most famous and recognizable species of bamboo. Its characteristics, however, make its use limited. Next to being a garden plant, it is mainly used in agriculture (supporting poles for crops) or for the manufacture of small artisan objects.
We use the bamboo species known as Vertisilata, Guadua or Aurea. These are high-quality, very resistant species (Guadua being the world’s strongest). The bamboo we use is treated and burned by fire to eliminate any kind of termite risk as well as to prolong its durability. We apply Italian varnish for excellent finishing.
