“La Imaginación es el único límite”
The company Zu Bambú was established in 2007 in Antigua Guatemala by Frenchman Henri-Jacques Perrin. Since then it has been contracted by renowned restaurants and hotels to design their furniture and interior decorations, and has done various projects in collaboration with interior designer Eric Ledoigt.
An explorer at heart, Henri-Jacques Perrin left France in 1999 to travel around Mexico and Central-America. After a year of travelling he decided to settle down at the Pacific Coast of Guatemala, where he set up a business. A ‘designer by nature’ he designed and decorated the place himself, using different kinds of natural materials. The success of his bar (until today many a travelers’ favorite in Monterrico, even though he no longer runs it) fuelled his passion for designing which led him to undertake more projects, always choosing to work with natural materials only. Little by little he discovered all the different possibilities of bamboo, which became his favorite material to work with.
In Guatemala, his new homeland, he met many teachers such as the Taiwanese Lin Shyh Shiun and local artisans who taught him their craft and introduced him to all kinds of natural materials as well as the traditional techniques for working them.
Establishing Zu Bambú allowed Henri-Jacques Perrin to combine his two major passions: the natural world and design.
